BBL (BroadBand Light) light therapy is a high-tech light pulse therapy based on the controlled use of broadband light. How does BBL work?

The device filters selected wavelengths from broadband light. wavelengths, which are precisely targeted melanin (pigment) and hemoglobin (small blood vessels). When light energy is absorbed by the target tissue, it is converted to heat and initiates a controlled renewal process without damaging the skin surface:
pigment spots darken for a moment and fade away as the skin renews itself,
superficial blood vessels and redness are getting lighter,

Note: We use the term “BBL laser” on this page, but technically it is called broadband light therapy (IPL). The term is chosen for clarity.

Wavelengths & filters – examples

The exact settings are selected skin type, tone and goal Below are typical applications (by way of example):
approx. 420 nm (blue): Calming the acne bacterial load.
approx. 515–560 nm (green/yellow): superficial pigment changes, tone brightening.
approx. 560–590 nm (yellow/reddish): Superficial blood vessels, redness, couperose.
approx. 640–695 nm: photorejuvenation, fine lines/texture softening; also selectively hair treatment.
approx. 800 nm+: in certain configurations, deeper structures/hair treatment.
The choice is always made by a professional; the same visit can be customized with multiple filters.

Course of treatment

Skin analysis & plan: History (sun exposure, medications) and goals are mapped.
Preparation: The skin is cleansed, if necessary, the area around the pigment spots/eyelids is protected; protective glasses are put on.
Light impulses: the treatment head is slid over the area; the feel is light heat/click. If necessary, use cooling.
Finish: soothing treatment cream and SPF. The treatment area may be warm or slightly red for a moment.
Duration: typically 30–45 minutes depending on the region.

Results & timeline

Many people notice brighter, smoother appearance from the first time. Pigment spots can dark for 3–7 days and flakes off imperceptibly; redness subsides weeks during. Before treatment – prepare your skin

No self-tanning/solarium 2 weeks before.
Power strong acids/retinoids 5–7 days before (depending on the region).
Tell medications (e.g. acne medication, photosensitizers).
Arrive clean skin preferably; shaving the night before.
If you have a tendency highly pigmented (e.g. darker skin type), the design is done with special care.

After treatment – aftercare & restrictions

SPF 50+ daily at least 2 weeks; avoid direct sunlight.
No sauna, hot showers, intensive training 24–48 hours.
No strong peels/retinoids 3–5 days.
Do not scratch/bark Darkened pigmented areas – let them flake off on their own.
Use soothing and moisturizing products (panthenol, hyaluronic acid, ceramides).

Who is BBL laser suitable for – and when should you first evaluate it?

Suitable for: fair–medium skin tone, sun damage, superficial veins, uneven tone/rough texture, light age spots.
Estimate first: very dark skin tone, active inflammation, pregnant/breastfeeding (case-specific assessment will be made), photosensitizing medication, prone to scarring skin, fresh tans. A treatment plan is always drawn up individually.
